Aventura Submarina: Un Héroe Invisible
Esta investigación desarrolla un proyecto de diseño transcultural utilizando un enfoque de Diseño Centrado en las Personas (DCP) para promover la sostenibilidad cultural y la educación sobre sitios históricos en Colombia.
El objetivo principal de este proyecto es contribuir al proceso educativo en Cartagena y en toda Colombia, fomentando la conciencia sobre el patrimonio histórico del país y preservando la memoria de eventos significativos que han moldeado la ciudad. Ante la falta de reconocimiento de estos aspectos históricos entre las nuevas generaciones, el proyecto busca generar un sentido de apropiación e identidad en los estudiantes, resaltando la importancia de las luchas y conflictos pasados. Así, se pretende responder a la pregunta: “¿Cómo podemos enseñar a los estudiantes en Cartagena la historia de las fortificaciones sumergidas para que comprendan su valor desde una perspectiva histórica y sociológica?”.
El programa de Subvención de Iniciativas Abiertas de la Biblioteca de UTA, en 2023, decidió financiar este proyecto, ya que no solo beneficiaría a los estudiantes de Comunicación Visual de la Universidad de Texas en Arlington, sino que también abriría la puerta para el desarrollo de iniciativas internacionales y favorecería a poblaciones menos favorecidas. Gracias a este apoyo, la Biblioteca de UTA participó activamente en el desarrollo y ejecución del proyecto, que incluyó tanto una exposición física como una versión en línea, con el fin de que más personas pudieran acceder a la información y aprender sobre la historia de la ciudad de Cartagena y la utilización del Diseño Gráfico en proyectos de Iniciativas Abiertas.

Underwater Adventure: An Invisible Hero
This research develops a cross-cultural design project using a People-Centered Design (PCD) approach to promote cultural sustainability and education about historical sites in Colombia.
The main objective of this project is to contribute to the educational process in Cartagena and throughout Colombia, promoting awareness about the country's historical heritage and preserving the memory of significant events that have shaped the city. Given the lack of recognition of these historical aspects among new generations, the project seeks to generate a sense of appropriation and identity in students, highlighting the importance of past struggles and conflicts. Thus, the aim is to answer the question: “How can we teach students in Cartagena the history of submerged fortifications so that they understand their value from a historical and sociological perspective?”.
The UTA Library Open Initiatives Grant program, in 2023, decided to fund this project, as it would not only benefit Visual Communication students at the University of Texas at Arlington, but would also open the door for the development of international initiatives and would benefit less favored populations. Thanks to this support, the UTA Library actively participated in the development and execution of the project, which included both a physical exhibition and an online version, so that more people could access information and learn about the history of the city of Cartagena and the use of Graphic Design in Open Initiative projects.
