Underwater Adventure: An Invisible Hero
This research develops a cross-cultural design project using a People-Centered Design (PCD) approach to promote cultural sustainability and education about historical sites in Colombia. The project focuses on the city of Cartagena, with a particular emphasis on fortifications and their construction, and is presented in an Interactive Design Exhibition at the Caribbean Naval Museum. Using graphic design tools such as animations, augmented reality, interactive murals, games and activity sheets, the project seeks to teach 5th and 6th grade students the history of fortifications from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
The main objective of this project is to contribute to the educational process in Cartagena and throughout Colombia, promoting awareness about the country's historical heritage and preserving the memory of significant events that have shaped the city. Given the lack of recognition of these historical aspects among new generations, the project seeks to generate a sense of appropriation and identity in students, highlighting the importance of past struggles and conflicts. Thus, the aim is to answer the question: “How can we teach students in Cartagena the history of submerged fortifications so that they understand their value from a historical and sociological perspective?”.
